I didn't create a page on any of the social networking sites. Being an extremely private person they just don't interest me. Perhaps it's my age? It all seems somehow so impersonal. I "interact" with young people almost daily that have absolutely no social skills and I think our lack of face to face interaction has done this generation a diservice. On the other hand in a world where people never seem to stay in one place more than a couple of years I think it's a great way to keep in touch with friends and family. MySpace and Facebook are obviously taking the place of phone calls and letter writing. Kids seem to enjoy it more and therefore do more of it...which is a good thing.
I thought the library sites on MySpace were terrific. Very creative and active. Judging from what I've read and seen I'd say the Juvenile and Young Adults are going to benefit/use this more than us "old timers"! How would you begin to estimate the time needed to answer questions, keep the site updated and attracting new people? Would anyone be able to "make changes" and how would this be monitored??? Just a few questions that pop into my mind.
